Nissan combines versatility with econony in 2011 Sentra

The 2011 Nissan Sentra incorporates several upgrades that enhance its reputation as an economical family vehicle while maintaining its roots as a versatile, sporty sedan.

“Sentra once again meets and exceeds all the expectations buyers in the compact sedan segment have – good fuel economy, durability, safety, reliability and affordability,” said Al Castignetti, general manager of Nissan North America. “Sentra, however, goes far beyond that with a completely unexpected level of style,

roominess, responsiveness and versatility – attributes that once again set Sentra apart in the segment.”

Under the Hood

Most 2011 Sentra models come with the standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 140 horsepower and 147 pound-feet of torque. It delivers an EPA-estimated mileage of 27 city and 34 highway with the automatic transmission.

Nissan also offers two versions of its 2.5-liter four-cylinder engines. One model delivers up to 177 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque, or the second engine produces 200 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque.

The Sentra may be configured with either six-speed manual or the fuel-efficient Xtronic, continuously variable transmission. Front suspension offers an independent strut design with coilover springs, and rear suspension utilizes a torsion beam design. Special “ripple cont

rol" shock absorbers help improve ride quality.

Comfort and Convenience

All six Sentra models feature cloth seats, with upgraded cloth and leather – with front seat heaters – available on some models. The interior comfortably accommodates up to five adults in its 97.7 cubic feet of passenger space. The trunk provides 13.1 cubic feet of cargo space.

The Sentra includes a oversized “pass-through” opening for skiers and other travelers who need to stow long, narrow cargo. The 60/40 split rear seat may be reconfigured for additional cargo.

Among the electronic conveniences offered on the Sentra are Nissan’s Intelligent Key keyless entry system and Bluetooth hands-free phone systems. The Sentra includes a Rockford Fosgate-powered sound system with eight speakers. Most Sentra models also include an iPOD interface.

Safety

All Sentra models include antilock brakes and Nissan’s advanced airbag system with dual-stage supplemental front airbags. Seatbelt sensors for airbags are standard as well, and front-seat passengers are also further protected by side-impact supplemental airbags.

Front and rear passengers are protected by roof-mounted side curtain airbags. All models include antilock brakes with electronic brake force distribution, vehicle dynamic control and traction control.
